The first year can be the hardest for new mothers facing family pressures, and social and economic challenges. Money is often a tipping point for many. Abortion becomes a consideration because “I can’t afford to have a baby.” Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to provide mothers seeking our counsel and help with all the basic necessities for the first year of life, ranging from diapers and formula to toys, a crib, and pacifiers.
The First Year of Life program provides a mother with the basic necessities for taking care of her baby for the first year of life. We begin by making sure the baby’s room is ready and well-stocked when the new mother comes home with her baby. We then provide a monthly supply of formula, diapers, incidentals, and a cash supplement for necessities for the first 12 months of the baby’s life. Most of the women we work with are in difficult financial situations. In many cases, the help we provide is a game changer. The support we provide extends beyond the financial. If we see that the mother’s living situation has challenges, for example, a home in need of critical repairs, cleaning, etc. volunteers give of their time to get everything ready for the new family.
All of this is done with a personal touch. Young women who thought no one cared and wanted to give up on life, find new hope. They know that we are there for them. The material support we provide is an investment in their lives and helps them to gain a new level of self-respect as they learn to love and care for their new baby.
The First Year of Life program costs US$2,000 a year per mother and baby. The amount is double if the mother has twins. Approximately half of this amount goes towards setting up the baby’s room.
While the specific supplies may differ, depending on the mother’s need, your gift of US$2,000 will provide the following:
Your donation in any amount will help. You can also choose to fund only part of this program, for example, to furnish only the baby’s room.
Thank you in advance for making a difference in these precious lives.
