Friends and Brothers and Sisters in Messiah,
Israel may be the Biblical Holy Land, but in actuality,it is a microcosm of the world. It has been estimated that, since the founding of the State, close to two million children have been killed via abortion. The laws of the State of Israel allow for artificial abortion until the last minute of pregnancy. Even though the child can live outside of his mother’s womb from the fifth month of gestation, performing an artificial abortion is not seen as murder, since the child in his mother’s womb is not considered a human being. There is no alarm, no newspaper headline, no television documentary, and no funeral service.
At A Future and A Hope, our vision is to inform all Israel’s inhabitants and to be a voice in the educational darkness prevailing here regarding the subject of artificial abortion (as opposed to natural, i.e. miscarriage) and its consequences. We cry out “Stop and think!” We are not talking about a piece of flesh or a bunch of cells, but about little people – just as we once were.
Our “You” Center (A”T from the initials of the word “you” in Hebrew) was established under the auspices of our Amuta (Israeli non-profit), which officially began activities in 2004. A Future and A Hope was established in order to help “change the situation.” Amonst the up-to-date information we provide to the public is factual data on all aspects of abortion and its consequences, sexually-transmitted diseases, birth control, post-abortion syndrome; we increase public awareness and encourage development of educational programs for youth to deal with and correct the widespread misconceptions about sex and sexuality, as well as about sexual purity and abuse.
Our nation is perishing because of lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6) and, therefore, properly educating our youth is more critical than ever. There are many places in Israel that have never received even a single page of information regarding abortion and its consequences. We share in every way possible and pray that doors will remain open for us to speak out to organizations, schools, on the streets – every other place possible – and that all means of communication will be made available to us.
Scripture makes it clear that the shedding of innocent blood in the land defiles it and affects every one of us here. Every woman who has gone through the terrible experience of abortion leading to the death of her child knows that this act can trouble her to the end of her life. We need to stop and think seriously about the message we are giving our children, especially if we know the right thing to do and do not do it. Today it is a child in his mother’s womb, tomorrow a sick infant, and tomorrow, an adult who, in our opinion, no longer has a socially redeeming value. Life has become cheap, and little by little, life is being valued in terms of economy and social merit – and not the inherent worth each conceived human being is born with. Such is the natural downward progression when we no longer pay attention to the Word God and forget His many Biblical reminders that we are to choose life.
There is a great need for the dissemination of information, not only regarding artificial abortion. This issue is much more complicated and passing out tracts, DVDs and making slide presentations dealing with abortion and sexually transmitted diseases helps, but it is not enough. The entire nation needs to be aroused from its stupor. In particular, the next generation must insist upon choosing life. The increase in sexually transmitted diseases is reaching epidemic proportions worldwide and Israel is not exempt. Hence, it is our mission to share information with every segment of Israeli society.
We speak anyplace that opens their doors to us, in order to present facts concerning truly safe sex, sexually-transmitted disease, and everything concerning abortion. Our amuta has experienced and informed counselors and representatives, with several decades of involvement in these areas; they are able to speak comprehensively about and address these matters.
It is often said that everything in Israel is difficult. Like most things, the difficulty usually stems from how we relate to the situation and not necessarily from the situation itself. The one who doubts sees the obstacle, but the one who hopes sees the way to overcome it. Our hope and our faith are tested in different ways as we face various challenges.
During one of the most difficult times in the history of the people of Israel, the prophet Jeremiah sent a notice to the Jewish people who were in the diaspora and encouraged them, among other things, with these words: “‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope’.” (Jeremiah 29:11). If we take these words to heart, we will never allow the difficulty of the challenge deter us from pressing on to find ways to achieve the goal and what we are called to do.
We need your prayerful financial support so that we can achieve our goal of influencing the next generation who will go on to influence our entire nation. Armed with the truth, they will give a future and a hope to a generation yet to be born.
